Much continues to happen in this church-wide effort to aide those our church is affiliated with in Haiti after the devastating earthquake.  Many from our local community and within this church body, as well as many other churches have given to help in this effort.  On January 25, four people left from the church to offer aide, assess the needs, and create a strategic plan for future aide and how the resources could best be used.  They carried with them a portion of the money which had already been given, as well as tents, tarps and other medical supplies.  Through contacts in Haiti with the U.N. and other aide organizations, God was able to provide much more for the orphanages than our resources could have provided.  The team returned on February 2 thankful for how God had helped them and with more accurate information on each orphanage so that ongoing work can be planned.  That planning is still in process, but on Sunday February 21 our Sunday services will focus on this church-wide effort, acknowledge many who have partnered with us in this endeavor, and give glory to God for all that he has done in the midst of tragic circumstances.

For many years, people from our church have been traveling to Haiti to engage in ministries of service and need-meeting.  During these years many significant relationships have been established between our congregation and individuals and ministries in Haiti.

One of the significant relationships and ministry emphases has been partnerships with a number of orphanages within Haiti and many people in our congregation provide sponsorship so that these children can have accommodation, food, and receive an education.  Our prayers and concern go out to not only those people, but all the people of Haiti who have been affected by this tragedy.

We pray for not only short term relief from the effects of this earthquake but also for long term change for the needy people of this country.  The Haiti ministry of this congregation desires to be an ongoing part of what we believe can and should be done to help the Haitian people and we are glad too, for the efforts of others around our world.

As a church our first response is prayer.  We know that God is the one who will ultimately provide what is needed.  We encourage you to make prayer for Haiti a priority in your life.

Our second response will be a small team of people who will travel to the country as soon as it becomes accessible.  The role of this team will be one of assessing the damage to and needs of our affiliated orphanages and churches and those who are connected to them.  The Haiti ministry leadership team will then develop a strategic plan of action to bring what assistance that we can.

We invite you to partnership with us in this endeavor by your prayers and also making a designated financial contribution.  Your contribution can be made to the Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church with Haiti Ministry/Quake in the memo line.  The cost of sending the initial reconnaissance/assessment team has been underwritten by our congregation and so 100% all donations will be used specifically and directly for the relief efforts for those orphanages and ministries with which we are in partnership.

If you would like to make a more general contribution to the general relief effort in Haiti, we recommend giving to Mennonite Central Committee (http://www.mcc.org/) and the work they continue to do in the country of Haiti.

Thank you for your prayers for the people of Haiti.  Thank you also for whatever financial assistance you choose to give.
