Project Name:

Clothe Our Community

Mission: To help create a new clothing closet here at the church so that we can once again offer clothing to our community at no cost.

Description: For many years our church has had a clothing closet which helped to provide clothes to those in need at no cost to them.  During renovations to the building, the room formally used as the clothing closet was needed for another use.  It is now time to create a new clothing closet in the church.  A room has been given, now it just needs to be converted for its new use.  This will greatly help many in our community who cannot afford clothes.

This project will involve construction of walls, painting, putting together shelving, sorting clothes, and organizing the new space.

Who can participate? Any one can help but this project is best suited for those youth age and older.  Approximately 8 people are needed.

Start time: 10:15 AM

Materials needed: gloves, hammers, measuring tapes, and other construction related items.  Also, good winter clothes can begin to be donated outside the MPR for the clothes closet.

Contact:
Cindy Brandt for more specific information

Notice: More people are still needed

Come to the lobby outside the MPR (aka the gym) at 10:15AM.

Project Name:

Mission Nutrition

Mission: To collect food (non-perishable), paper products, and toiletries to give to those in the community who could use a helping hand through Project Share.

Description: This mission includes delivering flyers to homes in a neighborhood which explain this service opportunity, what can be donated by the homeowner, and when the donations will be picked up by you and/or your team.  You should have your flyers delivered to homes by Friday, September 26.  Then, you and/or your team will go back through the neighborhood on Sunday September 28 to pick up the donated items and deliver them to the church by 4:30 PM on September 28.

Who can participate? Any one can help in this project and it is a great one for whole families to be involved.

Directions:

1.  Email the coordinator (Jenny Line) to choose a neighborhood in the community

2. Count the number of homes in the neighborhood and ask the coordinator to email or send you the flyer

3. Print out or copy the appropriate number of flyers.  If you do not have the ability to print your own flyers, contact Bryan Hoke at the church office: 717-243-1863.  Bryan can arrange to have the flyers printed.

4. Pick a couple of days to distribute the flyers.  This can be done by knocking on the door or leaving the flyer in the door.

5. Go back to the homes on September 28 to pick up what was left for those in need.  Don’t forget to collect anything from your home that you can spare.

6. Bring all the food back to the Narthex (big glass area at the front of the church) by 4:30 PM on Sunday, September 28

Recruiting: Prior to the event, please make it a goal to recruit more friends and family to contact the coordinator and “adopt” a neighborhood.  Everyone should be able to recruit others to sign up.  Recruiting is an important part of the mission.

Items Needed: Examples of items needed are canned goods and any non perishable food, toiletries, diapers, soap, toothpaste, Kleenex, and any other products people need for nourishment or personal hygiene.

Contact: Jenny Line for more specific information and to adopt a neighborhood

Note: An excellent way to increase the success rate of this mission is to staple a distribution flyer to a grocery bag and hang them on the doors of the homeowners.  In previous years, local grocery stores such as Nell’s were kind enough to donate bags.

If you cannot participate through collecting in your neighborhood, you are still welcome to bring these items in to the church and donate them for those in need.

-Hot dogs
-Hot dog rolls
-Lollipops
-Drinks – small bottles of water/cans of soda, lemonade, tea etc./juice boxes

-Stuffed animals for prizes

On the big day, we will need many volunteers to make the carnival a success. If we get enough people, we can break it down into two shifts (1-2:30 p.m. and 2:30-4 p.m.). Below are some specific jobs we need filled:

-Set-up crew (12-1 p.m.)
-Grillers
