Over the years some of our leaders have developed a passion for the country of Haiti and began working with an organization called Partners With Haiti. It wasn't long before this passion and enthusiasm spread to others to the point where many in our church have made short-term missions trips to/files/mission, vision, values/142930038_f65d85e3c3.jpg this beautiful country. This last December 2006, 17 individuals from our church headed to Haiti again with others from partnering churches.

One of Haiti's greatest needs is their children. Haiti has no public schools and lacks even fundamental government assistance for funding and aid to those who desperately need it. Families canot survive as units and many live on the streets. In many cases children have no one to care for them because Haitian families cannot afford to take care of them.

One way Partners With Haiti helps is by building and creating orphanages that will feed, clothe /files/Haiti Care Package/ORPHANAGE.jpgand educate children. Our own church has been able to provide a portion of the funds for a new orphanage that will do all of these things, but sponsorship is desperately needed for those individual children who will have the opportunity to stay at the orphanage.

You can help in so many ways by educating yourself to one of the more amazing needs in our day. Please call the church office at 243-1863 for more information, or e-mail Matt Reichard directly.

    Care Package and Recent Trip

On Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 6:30 PM a Tractor Trailer hauling a shipping container pulled away from Terry Quails house in Newville headed for the port in Baltimore, MD and then on to it's final destination in Haiti.
For months the team that went to
Haiti last December had been collecting items for a brand new orphanage in Haiti as well as some other needy villages.  Many local businesses donated hundreds of items and many others were collected by team members.  Leading this endeavor were Matt Reichard, Terry Quail and Marv Diller.
After raising the tens of thousands of dollars needed to build this orphanage, they now wanted to make sure it and others like it would be full of the necessary items to make it more comfortable and the people of
Haiti would have the many basic necessities they so often go without.

After careful measurements and calculations, the container was packed from floor to ceiling by many willing volunteers until it wouldn’t hold anymore.  Below is an exhaustive list of the items sent to Haiti:

  • 20 wooden trundle beds, 40 mattresses/files/Haiti Care Package/We did it!.JPG
  • A refrigerator, washer, dryer, stove, freezer
  • 100 place setting of dishes
  • 600 lbs. of sheets
  • 200 lbs. of running shoes
  • 400 lbs. of dress shoes
  • 446 lbs. of soap
  • 300 tubes of toothpaste
  • 205 lbs. of school supplies
  • 1,070 lbs. of children/men's/women's clothing
  • Over $10,000 worth of medical supplies
  • 307 lbs. of toys, A few bikes
  • 17 Pentium computers with printers, paper, etc.
  • 7 small upholstered chairs
  • 43 lamps / lights, 36 lamp shades
  • 4 student desks, A dining room table, 20 dining room chairs
  • 8 quarter round multi-use tables
  • A wheelbarrow, 6 cases full of tools, walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches and a full body brace and many, many more items

All together the total was 28,000 lbs!

This is what God can do when a group of people catch his vision and allow him to work through them to achieve it.  What an impact this will have on the people and children of Haiti.  Thanks to the many who have given their time and energy to make this happen.  May God’s love shine through those efforts.
