Where did you grow up?
I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where I lived until age 10. My family then moved to Bangor, Northern Ireland, which was a small costal community approximately 13 miles from Belfast. I lived there until I began attending Bethel Bible College in Portrush, Northern Ireland. After two years in Bible College I moved to Cork, Republic of Ireland for evangelistic ministry. I then returned to Omagh, Northern Ireland to become an assistant Pastor. When Sharon and I married in April 1984 we began preparation to relocate to Wales in order to church plant.
During our five years in Wales (1984-1989) our two daughters were born (1986 and 1988). In 1989 we moved to Manchester, England and I became the pastor of a Church of the Nazarene congregation in the city of Salford (just outside Manchester). During my years in Manchester I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Nazarene Theological College, an affiliated school of the University of Manchester. In 1993 we moved to Irvine, Scotland and I served as pastor in the Church of the Nazarene in that community. During my years in Irvine I earned a Master’s of Applied Theology degree from Oxford University.
We relocated to the USA in 1998 when I accepted a full scholarship to attend Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, to work on a Doctor of Ministry degree in leadership and preaching. Following the one-year residential period in Wilmore, we relocated to Carlisle, Pennsylvania when I accepted the position of senior pastor of the Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church. I subsequently completed my Doctor of Ministry degree and began work on a Ph.D. in Administration and Leadership from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). I have completed the coursework and am in the dissertation stage of this program.
Hobbies/Interests:
My interests and hobbies are sport related. I love to play soccer, and I also officiate high school and college soccer games. I enjoy cycling and jogging, and have completed a number of marathons, an ultra-marathon, and a number of triathlons. Future goals include completing an Ironman 70.3 triathlon, and cycling across the United States. While growing-up in Northern Ireland I did a lot of fishing and I would like to rekindle that hobby. I also did a lot of photography and this too is something I would like to do again.
My favorite place in the entire world is: “home” – wherever that may be.
My favorite foods – Irish wheaten bread, pizza, pavlova, and most things that come with lots of cream (ice cream or whipped cream)
My favorite movies – Remember the Titans, Cool Runnings, and most movies that have historical stories
