/files/Missions/031206_group.jpgWhile many Outreach or Evangelism projects are aimed at meeting the spiritual needs of people, Service Projects have goals of meeting the wholistic needs of the physical, social, and emotional needs of a person or people groups. Service projects provide an amazing and easy opportunity for any person, inside or outside of the church body, to be actively involved in touching the lives of others in real and practical ways.

Below is a sampling of the many ways we tried to make a difference in
the recent past (last 2 years)
:

Habitat for Humanity, Greenville, SC: 81 adults and youth participated in a week-long build and remodel of houses in July 2006, in Greenville, SC.

Paxton Street Ministries: 10 volunteers from our church participated in replacing a roof on an apartment building. We also contributed financially for the raw material.

Christian Retreat Center: Volunteers from Carlisle B.I.C. spearheaded a building project for this retreat center. This project began in May of 2004 and was completed in June of 2006 with the dedication of a new dining hall. Members of our congregation provided committee leadership, project leadership and were instrumental in the final weeks of the project completion.

Roxbury Holiness Camp: In August of 2006 approximately 40 volunteers from our church spent a day at this camp serving as dishwashers and performing cleanup for all 3 meals during a week which focuses on the spiritual growth of individuals.

Meat Canning: 22 volunteers spent a day (Watch Video!) at the Chambersburg meat canning project helping with the problem of hunger in a very practical way by preparing and canning meat to be sent all /files/Mississippi/Devastation.jpgover the world. This event is sponsored by the Mennonite Central Committee.

Gulfhaven Relief: In March of 2006 we had over 60 volunteers drive down to the Gulf Coast to help repair homes, churches, and generally lend a hand in providing relief to hurting people after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. Click here for pictures

2007 News

Work trips have been planned for 2007.  The first was a return trip to Mississippi to help the many who are still trying to rebuild their lives after hurricane Katrina tore through the area.  On January 13 thru January 20, 2007, our church sponsored a trip to Mississippi to help with the rebuilding or new construction of homes in the Pass Christian and Bay, St. Louis areas.  We have been invited to stay at the Gulfhaven Mennonite Church in Gulfport, Mississippi.  This church received severe wind and rain damage during hurricane Katrina our church, as well as many from our community was able to help them rebuild their sanctuary and construct a new kitchen. Look here for updated photos of this successful service trip.

Over the past 13 years, we have been able to work with Habitat for Humanity in Greenville, South Carolina where we constructed over 40 homes.  Through a number of return trips to Greenville, many have witnessed personally the /files/mission, vision, values/63148453_2a9a2752ee.jpgchanged lives of those who received the homes because so many gave of their time to help those in need.

Under the same leadership, we have been able to participate in Carlisle and the surrounding area in building several houses for Habitat for Humanity, assisting with the construction of three houses for the MCC House Against Hunger projects, and most recently leading in the construction of a Dining Hall at Christian Retreat Center, a local camp.  It is also gratifying to hear of the way God’s Kingdom has been multiplied in the BIC Churches in Waukesha, Wisconsin and Sauble Beach, Ontario where the Carlisle BIC volunteers built the two churches, one in 2002 and the other in 2004.

Why not add your name to the list of the many that have served in this way and impact many around you in a significant way!  For questions about either trip please contact the church office or Pastor Bryan Hoke.
